Test ride, year 2

This is my super awesome bike. I use it to travel to super awesome destinations within the city…at least when it isn’t a significant risk to my life to do so.

My vintage Columbia bike in repose

It spent the winter chained to the fire escape in the back of the house, making me wish that I had a garage or a shed to keep it safe and dry, or that I had at least thought to throw a tarp over it before the snow started. Not that it hasn’t seen better days, but it would be nice to minimize the damage.

I took it out for a test ride.  The Harriman office campus is perfect for this sort of thing since hardly anyone drives on it during the weekend. The ride wasn’t bad…shorter and less eventful than my very first test ride with this bike, but the verdict was worse.

It looks the same–paint is in good shape, but the metal parts are sort of rusty. I’ve added a rear view mirror since taking the above picture, which I really like. The rear brakes barely work, which is problematic, and I can’t shift gears, which is even more problematic even though it’s only a three-speed.
