Timely, yeah.

On the “most popular articles” bar of the New York Times Web site, this caught my eye just now – The Demise of Dating. Their op-ed writer is shocked–SHOCKED–at how those crazy young people are forming relationships these days.

It turns out that everything is the opposite of what I remember. Under the old model, you dated a few times and, if you really liked the person, you might consider having sex. Under the new model, you hook up a few times and, if you really like the person, you might consider going on a date.

This is news? I could have told anyone this at least ten years ago. Mostly in the form of anecdata, but still.

It’s so normal to me that I forget sometimes that it hasn’t always been the normal course of things. Which is strange, since…I wish it weren’t.
