Brazil priest carried aloft by balloons missing
SAO PAULO, Brazil — A Roman Catholic priest who floated off under hundreds of helium party balloons was missing Monday off the southern coast of Brazil.
Rescuers in helicopters and small fishing boats were searching off the coast of Santa Catarina state, where pieces of balloons were found.

Welcome to finals week

I’m working until midnight tonight. Then back behind my desk at my day job at 8:30 am. I like my jobs, but right now I’d really rather be home, cleaning and sorting. I brought home a full set of almost 40-year-old dishes to use at home, which are old and attractive enough that

This isn’t working.

I have to get up early for work, and my body still doesn’t quite understand this. “I thought we were still in grad school!” it whimpers, shivering. “Can’t we go back for five more minutes?”
“No!” yells my bank account.
Mornings are not pleasant around here. They require three to four alarm clocks, one

Shirtless

Why are the good ones always printed on yellow? It’s even library-themed.That’s happened with a lot of my other favorites that they’ve done lately, too. I haven’t ordered during the $10 sale in a long time, primarily because they haven’t done anything in colors I would actually wear.
Even if they weren’t ugly

Ewwww

This was tomato sauce at one point. Um…at least we know that this brand doesn’t put strong anti-fungal chemicals in their products? There must always be a bright side.
We’ve started cleaning out the fridge more often since this incident. That’s never been one of my favorite chores.

They’re doing something with ELS. That building has been sitting and rotting since 1995 and is one of the last of the fraternity/private society houses to be renovated at Hamilton. It was a bus stop and occasional meeting space during my time there.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MEEEEE (and my mommy)

[Number redacted] years ago today, a 4 pound, 7 ounce baby girl was born in Tupper Lake, NY. She grew up, moved to Syracuse, got married, and 27 years ago today gave birth to a 4 pound, 11 ounce baby girl. That girl in turn grew up, moved to Albany, but has not

Bowling with a bit more authority than you’re used to

I have sort of a crush on John Oliver.
Is it the dimples, the glasses, the accent, or the slow-motion fake bowling?

Definitely the slow-motion bowling.

Warm weather makes me thirsty.

I forgot to bring my water bottle in to work today.  I usually drink at least a liter of water, and I leave it half-full in the freezer overnight so I can have ice water all day.  I get very grouchy if I can’t sit and sip my water all day at work, especially as

Random childhood memory of the day

Brzostek’s has a Web site! They were originally based in my hometown of Baldwinsville, and when I was a little kid we used to go to their antique auctions to look for glassware deals. I didn’t think that they did auctions this far east.
