Recipe Corner — Lentil Soup

There are probably dozens of similar if not identical recipes to this on the Internet, but I’m making a project of posting my regular recipes here. My lentil soup recipe is a basic vegan modification of the recipe on the Goya lentil bag.
1 cup dry lentils (1/2 lb.), sorted and rinsed

Subvert the transit paradigm

Public transit is a huge issue here in New York State, especially the upstate/downstate allocation of funds. Subway and bus fare costs twice as much in New York City as bus fare does here in Albany. More people here have cars, and their system is more comprehensive, but the imbalance is still striking

Generation Y biggest user of U.S. libraries — survey
More than half of Americans visited a library in the past year with many of them drawn in by the computers rather than the books, according to a survey released on Sunday.
No surprise there–I’m embarrassed to admit that I probably would have answered the survey the same

Hamster exercise

I put Victor in a new cage, the one that formerly belonged to Violet. This cage has a nice big wheel for a nice big hamster like him. He tried the wheel for about three minutes, and is now back to trying to dig through the plastic floor for exercise.
As long as he

I brought home a few reams of fancy resume paper from my parents’ house. I’m going to lots of printing soon, and I also plan to do some printing to make greeting cards to sell on Etsy.
Last summer, my inkjet printer died. I didn’t exactly mourn it–I got it for free with a rebate

I’m not sure why this lolcheezburger made me laugh so hard, but it did:

Our neighbors have a beagle puppy who’s about six months old. Their daughter was walking the puppy today…she’s a little older than I was when we got my first dog, Lady. The

Art for Commerce’s Sake

My last week of work, my car was buried in and under a snowbank and I had to take the bus. Gas was getting expensive, too. From the bus, I walked through a long underground plaza to get to the building where I worked. That week, there was a pre-Christmas craft show

Molly McIntyre Northrup wishes you a merry Christmas!
Molly is a bit alarmed by the collector prices for some of her favorite toys. I bought or received almost all of my American Girl stuff in the ‘90s, before Mattel bought the company.
My Molly was made in Germany, and after that, the dolls were briefly

How could he?

I just don’t understand how it could enter someone’s head to do this to another creature. Even a little hamster.
Teenager tortured hamster in ‘act of senseless cruelty’
A 14-year-old boy from Harrogate subjected a hamster to a half-hour ordeal in which he put her in a freezer, a tumble-dryer and a washing machine before she
