YA THINK?! #1: The New College Try
Despite their image as meritocratic beacons of opportunity, the selective colleges serve less as vehicles of upward mobility than as transmitters of privilege from generation to generation.

Super-capitalism

Right now I’m listening to the Fresh Air podcast.  I’m listening to an episode from a few weeks ago, an interview with Robert Reich on an issue dear to my heart, the problems with super-capitalism (big box stores, large companies, and the rest of the current state of things) and the problems and choices caused

These are AMAZING.  Especially by the staid standards of state library program marketing initiatives.  Holy COW.
Edit: Oops, the mudflap image is already causing a minor feminist whin– er, uproar.  Apparently it’s anti-feminist to tweak familiar images to get people’s attention.

Afternoon odds and ends

The Times-Union is conducting an interesting experiment in blogs. In addition to less formal articles written by their regular writers and reporters, they’ve brought on people from the community to write about a variety of subjects. One of their blogs on religious topics is written by Fr. Dennis Tamburello of Siena College.
