Out of town, again

I spent the whole day away from my computer, and oddly I’m not in the mood to sit at it anymore.
I went to ComicCon in New York. For “professional” reasons, of course. It was fun, although it sucks that my trips down tend to be day trips to attend one-day events (or wait

I knew YouTube wouldn’t fail me

GOALIE FIGHT. The good stuff is about five minutes in. Lindy Ruff is awesome. The Sabres are my team, since one of their players is my age and from my hometown. Even if he left our high school to go into the OHL.

What about the Jesuit ninjas?

I have to admit that I found this NYT article interesting.
When half a dozen students in Neil Waters’s Japanese history class at Middlebury College asserted on exams that the Jesuits supported the Shimabara Rebellion in 17th-century Japan, he knew something was wrong. The Jesuits were in “no position to aid a revolution,” he said; the

Aminals

Violet got loose this afternoon while I was refilling her water bottle. She must have crawled out through the hole through which the water bottle drops down into her cage. I didn’t notice until now. I fail at owning pets.
She hit the back bedroom closet, I can tell from droppings. I’d guess she had a nice

A pretty pointless weekend project, as these things go

I don’t have anything to wear to work tomorrow. I had intended to do a load of dark laundry today, but we’re out of rack space and I never got around to it.
I redid my photo albums, though. They’re in a whole new format, with lots of cool new pictures. New

Fun with state government

Oh snap.

The things I remember from my childhood….

Were you wondering if it was possible to give personal-injury lawyers an even worse reputation?
Jim “The Hammer” Shapiro of Rochester, NY, managed it. It seems like these commercials have been on TV for most of my life.

Recipe corner — potato leek soup

My roommate is currently sick and felt like having some soup, and I had some leeks in the fridge that needed to go somewhere, so for dinner today we had potato-leek soup. I think I got the recipe down, finally. I might try adding a handful of carrots for color and variety next time.

This is a recurring theme for me

Empire State Plaza vs. Forces of Good, Round 4,971. Technically I’m a member of the cathedral parish, but I don’t like Saturday Mass and I work on Sundays. It feels funny to be in such a ginormous building and only have one hundred or fewer people there.
